Batter up! Young Activists host Slowpitch Tournament, June 7-8 in Sundre
EDMONTON — The Young Activists Committee is encouraging AUPE members – young and the young at heart – to get into the swing of summer by registering for the slowpitch ball tournament June 7-8 in Sundre.
“This isn’t just a ball tournament for young activists,” explained Jason Heistad, AUPE Vice-President and committee chair.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity for members of all ages to come out, socialize and have a ball – figuratively and literally.”
A cabaret will be held on the Saturday evening, including entertainment, a cash bar and an evening snack.
Registration is $250 per team with a minimum of eight players per mixed squad. Each team must consist of at least four AUPE members and/or staff.
As well, teams that have a minimum of five “Young Activists” (AUPE members 30 years old and under) on their rosters will be entered into a special prize draw.
Teams will also be responsible for providing their own equipment, including bats, balls, helmets, gloves and a catcher’s mask. Camping facilities are available.
Proceeds from the ball tournament will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, Mountainview County.
Registration forms must be completed and submitted with payment to AUPE Headquarters, c/o Bill Dechant, by May 9, 2008.
